About the Whitley County Republican Party
The Whitley County Republican Party was formed in the early 1850’s just prior to the first Republican National Convention held on July 6, 1956 in Jackson, Michigan. Although, the Republican Candidate for President, John C. Fremont lost the election in 1856, the Whitley County Republican Party would provide Abraham Lincoln with a majority 1,133 votes in the Presidential Election of 1860. Many of those voters and their family members would go on to form Company E of the Indiana 44th Infantry Regiment on October 16, 1861 and serve in the Union Army for the duration of the Civil War. For nearly 160 years, the Whitley Republican Party has fought for and will continue to fight for Mr. Lincoln’s Party and the Republic.
The Party Organization consists of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, along with 34 Precinct Committeemen and 34 Vice Precinct Committeemen.
Elected Republicans currently hold all but two elected positions in the entire County.
