Whitley County PC Chairs, PC Vice Chairs, Whitley County Republicans, and Friends of Whitley County,
As Chairman of the Whitley County Republican Party, I want to address concerns about Republicans in our community publicly supporting non-Republican candidates and Republican candidates actively campaigning alongside non-Republicans. When these activities support a candidate opposing a Republican nominee, they raise concerns under our State Party rules.
Indiana Republican State Party Rule 1-25 defines a “Republican in Good-Standing” as someone who supports Republican nominees and does not actively or openly support another candidate against a Republican nominee. I encourage our members, candidates, and elected officials to review the Party’s rules and applicable bylaws and understand the responsibilities that accompany Republican Party affiliation.
Public endorsements and coordinated campaign activities can communicate support for an opposing candidate. Those seeking the Republican Party’s support should understand how their own campaign activities align with these expectations.
We are attaching an October 24, 2026, letter from Indiana Third Congressional District Republican Chairman Pat Brown addressing this matter. The letter affirms the expectation that Republican members, candidates, and elected officials uphold Party rules and support Republican nominees. It also confirms the District Committee’s support for a County Chairman’s decision to withhold Party support from Republican candidates and elected officials whose actions demonstrate active or open support for candidates opposing Republican nominees.
My purpose in addressing this issue is to provide clarity and encourage accountability, respectful communication, and a consistent understanding of our Party’s expectations.
If you have questions or concerns about Rule 1-25, the applicable bylaws, or how these expectations apply to a particular situation, please contact the Whitley County Republican Central Committee. We would gladly have a discussion, listen to your concerns, and work through your questions respectfully.
Respectfully,
Whitley County Republican Central Committee
